You may have seen our restock of Malabrigo on Facebook or Instagram--mostly Rios and Rasta, but we also have some of the brand new Mohair base (which was a secret until it was actually available for shops to order (!)). In addition to the colors being lovely on their own, there is also the opportunity to use the mohair with a different base in the same color. Certainly not the only option, but a fun one!
2022 is the 10th year of the Indie Design Gift-a-long -- and possibly the first year I've managed to remember to post about it before the associated pattern sale!
If you're brand-new to the Indie Design Gift-a-long (or if you need a refresher on the details):
It's a raucous and complex event, but you can dip a toe into the water by buying a single pattern, or you can go for the glory by completing all the challenges! Either way, it's a fun way to enjoy some camaraderie with online fiber friends!
It's been a hectic few weeks in my world, but I finished both of the small projects I cast on last week. Spiral Bound is a beanie & cowl set from my shop owner friend, Becca Anderson. I test knit the larger size beanie, which takes less than a skein of Ultra Alpaca Chunky Natural, and if you were to make the set, three skeins would make the hat + cowl. You can see how cozy Becca looks, and when I tried on my finished hat, it was nice and toasty! Ultra Alpaca Chunky Natural is 50% superfine alpaca and 50% Peruvian wool, and comes in seven neutral colors (including two marls). Purchase yarn for this design, and I have Becca's blessing to share a coupon code with you that makes the pattern free!
I also finished Rosie Posie Knit Co.'s Reindeer Romp Beanie. After talking with a customer, I decided to try ladderback jacquard to manage the places where the floats are longer. (I used the instructions in Susan Rainey's It's Not About the Hat pattern, which I purchased and then discovered I had previously purchased in 2016 🤦.) The Reindeer Romp Beanie pattern includes a tutorial for catching longer floats in a more conventional way--I was just in the mood to play around a bit. I made the adult large hat, and used a bit less than one third of each of the three colors--so three skeins would definitely make two hats, and might make three--maybe more if making the baby or toddler sizes. Kits for these festive hats are here.
