Holiday Gifting, Plus a Peek at Our First 2026 Stitchalong

If you've been here awhile, you know that I've got a pretty good spiel on the subject of gift cards. I love it, honestly--seeing the light bulb illuminate when your loved ones start to understand that they aren't just giving you a cash-equivalent. They are giving you a whole experience, from project planning to shopping for the perfect colors and texture to the pleasure of knitting or crocheting the project you chose, to wearing the thing you made or enjoying the pleasure of giving a handmade gift. Gift cards don't have to be mundane, and I'm happy to argue the point with cheerful vigor!

However, if there is something specific you have your eye on, feel free to stop in or email me. I can add a note to your customer file, and when your people come in, they can ask me to look up those notes!

…new in the shop

Prior to our one-day Plaid Friday sale, I had a vision of what our Wall of Malabrigo might look like at the end of that day. Friends, I was not wrong. However, occasionally I have a well-timed idea, and I placed a couple of restocking orders (Malabrigo, Berroco, Symfonie Terra) about a week ahead of time, to make sure we'd be able to finish out the year with our favorites here and ready for you! Rios, Arroyo, Rasta, Vientos, Vintage, Lanas, Terra, and more!

We also received a couple of orders with embroidery and needle felting kits--you can find those here and here!

…to inspire

I promised a December reveal of our January 2026 stitchalong, Can't Died in a Cornfield.

First, the backstory. I grew up in Nebraska. Where there are cornfields aplenty. As a kid, my mom countered any sort of whining that had an "I can't" component to it with a cheerful, "Can't died in a cornfield." (Subtext, having given up, Can't was doomed to wander, lost, through the maze of corn rows.) The phrase stuck.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. I was thinking about how delightful I find Susanne Sommer's designs, and how I've only made one. More than once, I've talked myself out of starting one, just because the project scope is a bit above the sort of sample that drives the most sales. There's a fair bit of brioche, and sometimes a lot of colors, and quite a few yards, and the yarn is frequently quite skinny.

I got a little irritated with myself--I mean, there's a time and a place to be practical, and there's also a time to try something that is a little more challenging!

The Can't Died In a Cornfield stitchalong is super flexible. Pick a project that is a stretch in some way. It doesn't have to be the hardest thing you've ever made. It doesn't have to be a huge project. Just something that you've observed yourself holding back on. Stroll out of the cornfield, give yourself a little peptalk, and start a new project. I'll host an opening Zoom from 7-8pm on Tuesday, January 6th.

Bonus content: segment on "Can't died in a cornfield" from the A Way with Words podcast.

Mosspath: the ribbed hem is done, even though I lost my mind and ended it with a tubular cast off. I'm almost done picking up the stitches, and will begin the double knit button band in short order. PS, the Laine x Novita Winter Black is BLACK, but I boosted the exposure a little.

Jaunty will be my desk project this week. (I stole a needle tip from it, but can return it and get back to work!

And I started this as a gift. As many green things as I made last year, you would think it wouldn't have been such a struggle to find the small quantities of two different greens that I needed!
