On Sunday, I decided to go see the Hamilton movie (which is a performance by the original Broadway cast filmed in 2016) at the Majestic Theater in Yakima. Surveying my active knitting projects, I had the choice between 2x2 ribbing and 1x1 ribbing. All things being equal, I went with the project that was physically smaller.
Now, a thing that I know is that my success with knitting ribbing in a movie theater depends very much on the amount of light generated by what is on the screen--needed to check that the ribs are still aligned correctly. Another thing that I know is that the set of Hamilton is dark and moody, and at no point does the production attempt to convey the sense of being outdoors on a sunny day. And yet. Which is to say that when I got home, I got to spend some quality time with a crochet hook to correct a variety of errors.
This is why I need a variety of options! An early-morning-no-one-else-is-awake project that is more complex; something that doesn't require my full attention, but might need the light of day occasionally; and something in stockinette that I probably can't screw up, even if there is no light.
Good news, I happened upon a Musselburgh hat I'd started in an incredible fiber, and put aside sometime last spring, so I will have something to take with me to see Jon Batiste on Wednesday (Yarn Folk will be closing at 3:30) and to see a 30th anniversary showing of Toy Story--the movie I've see more than any other, but am happy to see again with my family 💚

…new in the shop
If you've been to the new shop location, you know that the Wall of Malabrigo, aka the Wall-abrigo, is bigger than ever, and all of the Malabrigo is on it! What that means is that when we get a big restock, the different bases get very cozy with their neighbors for awhile!
That's a LOT of Malabrigo, including the new Ultimate Sock Minis, perfect for heels and toes, stripes, colorwork, and more. Across the bases, we currently have 169 colors of Malabrigo. (Some replicate across the different yarn weights.)
I think I've wound almost all, if not all, of the new "Rosalinda's Friends" colors of Rios now, and they are so pretty caked up!
Have you ever come into the shop, asked me for turquoise (or aqua) yarn and had me tell you you would need to find it yourself? Not being intentionally unhelpful, I promise. I just know that my turquoise is greener than average! (Same is true for periwinkle--I know what I think periwinkle is, but most of you think it is blue-er than that!)
I love this test that shows you how your perception compares to the mean. Be sure to read the "about" section after the test--it is fascinating!
