Time for Your First Reminder About Fair Entries!

About a dozen of us enjoyed stitching in public at the July Sunset Market. Thanks to Kimberly C. for making sure we got a pic, and we'll plan on returning in August. August 12th  is the date to save!

…new in the shop

We just got a shipment of Symfonie Terra, and it contains a number of brand new colorways. We love this line for the softness of the Merino/nylon blend, the depth of color, and its origin story--a group of employees at the KnitPro factory in India approached their supervisors with a desire to expand production into dyeing yarn, and management supported them. The factory primarily employs women, and KnitPro pays fair wages, provides meals and transportation, and encourages job training and education for workers.

Fair time is coming up quick! Here are just a few details to start to think about.

Kittitas County Fair: This year's dates are September 3-7, and online registration for open class exhibitors generally happens during the first two weeks of August. There's no cost to enter, and no penalty if you don't end up submitting your entries. Remember: Needlework includes knitting, crochet, embroidery, and weaving; Fiber Arts is handspun (by drop spindle, wheel, or e-spinner) yarn and items made from handspun; Wool Show is fleece.

Grant County Fair: August 18-22. Online entries are accepted until August 10 at 10p, and in-person entries are August 14-17.

Correction North Central Washington Fair: August 26-30. Online entries are open for Open Class Fabric & Fiber Arts until August 15, or may be accepted in person on August 22.

Central Washington State Fair: Yakima's fair dates are September 25 - October 4, and online entry is open--scroll to the button that says "click to enter."

...currently stitching

I'm up to four squares for the granny square bag. I'm aiming for one every couple of days (I think I need about 16.) I'm using Uni Cotton in a palette inspired by my favorites, chocolate sunflowers.

My Tour de Fleece project is progressing, now that I've cleared a few bobbins. I've assigned letters to each of the main colors in the gradient (A-P, I think), and I'm creating intermediary colors between each of those. These mini skeins are colors AA and AB, and the swatch is a quick gauge of color AA to make sure my stitches per inch for the spun yarn is close to what I need for the Paul Klee Sweater. The swatch is a little wobbly due to the fact that I didn't give the skein a nice bath and a rest before I knit it up.

The Friday Tee in CottonWool 3 looks substantially the same. It's not, mind you, the body IS longer, but I'm at the stage where my progress markers are helping me cling to my sanity. Fun fact: CottonWool 3 is one of the suggested substitute yarns for the main color of Andrea Mowry's new Antipodes pattern, her 2026 Rhinebeck Sweater. We also have Edition 3 (and Starke 6 Bruder, which is identical in weight and yardage), a suggested substitute for the contrast color.
