Here's hoping you held up okay during last week's heat blast. The shop doesn't have A/C, and while the awning plus the ceiling fans generally keep things relatively comfortable, by Saturday it was just plain hot everywhere--inside, outside, in the sun, in the shade. I water three of the city planters on Pearl Street, and I hauled a LOT of buckets of water!

Okay, I've buried the lede here. Meet Malabrigo Ultimate Sock. Your favorite fingering weight merino, now available with 25% nylon! We've got ten colors in stock; you can find them here.
I'm weighing the pros and cons of keeping both original Sock and Ultimate Sock, or transitioning to all Ultimate Sock. Let me know your thoughts: ann@yarnfolk.com. Malabrigo has heard requests for this blend for years, and I think they've done it just right--it's the same delicious merino wool, and the same nicely twisted 4-ply.
A trend I've noticed, welcomed, and hopped on is an increase of interest in crochet--from first-time stitchers and seasoned knitters alike. Last week, I referenced Toni Lipsey's You Tube channel; this week, I'd like to highlight The American Crochet Association's Learn How to Crochet for Absolute Beginners. One of the educational sessions I missed during my trip to the h + h Trade Show in Chicago was presented by Salena Baca of the ACA, and when I watched the session replay recently, I was impressed by how she organizes the teaching of basic skills.
I started a sample with a new yarn--and while I'm not quite ready to introduce the yarn itself, here's a peek at the beginning of the project. This is the Fenna Shawl by Brittany Garber, from the Sisters Not Twins collaboration with Sun Daughter Knits. Fenna is the crochet version of this shawl design; Freia is its knit sister!
