…new in the shop

Keeping (mostly) mum about this until Malabrigo announced it a week ago was HARD. I swatched it (in the form of a hat) back in MAY, when I got a sample skein at trade show.

Seis Cabos is a non-superwash worsted weight yarn from Malabrigo, and we have all 26 colors available. Some are old favorites. (Aniversario? ✅ Cereza? ✅ Frank Ochre? ✅) Some are new friends. (Cabo Polonio? Paracas? Nice to meet you!)

Seis Cabos means "six plies," and they are firmly twisted, yielding a very round and bouncy yarn. The stitch definition is out of this world, and cables and twisted stitches POP.  When I swatched for my new project (👀 -- see below), my blocked swatch was exactly the same size once it was dry as it was before its bath. And if you're a particularly sensitive type, it's probably soft enough for you. We are VERY excited about this yarn! Find all 26 colors here.

We're also excited about our Yarn Folk Zippered Totes! Printed for us here in Kittitas County, these are good-sized totes. We tested them to see how much yarn they held, and the answer was SEVENTEEN skeins of Rios*, without too much smashing. They are printed with our new heart of Washington graphic, and are 12.5"h x 13.5"w x 6.5"d, with nylon web handles, and two generous exterior pockets. They are made from a sturdy polyester canvas in a charcoal grey that resists spills and stains. You can find them here

*It will fit 17 skeins of Seis Cabos, as well 😝

…to inspire

Have you made a Clapotis? The internet has been part of my knitting world as long as I've been knitting, and Knitty, the online knitting magazine, was a fairly early entry into that world. (The first issue was published online in Fall 2002.) (And if you peruse the patterns, you will swiftly learn that faux fur yarn was very much a thing then.) The pattern for Clapotis appeared two years later, and took the online knitting community by storm. But how? Ravelry's beta-launch didn't occur until 2007, Facebook's first public users created accounts in 2006, and Instagram launched in 2010. Before that, there were listservs and knitting blogs.

Today, there have been almost 24,000 Clapotis projects recorded in Ravelry, and in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the pattern, Knitty is hosting Clapotisfest. If you're interested in making this iconic pattern, and you finish and submit photos to Knitty prior to 12/1/2024, you could win a prize; specifically, yarn. The pattern is adaptable to any weight yarn, and the size can be modified as well!

...currently stitching

The Elmer Sweater in Tillie is doggone cute. I can't say enough about how nice this yarn was to work with, and the pattern was simple, but had enough interest to keep me engaged. High marks for both!

And having *finished* four projects in the last few weeks, I was more than due for a good cast on! I did a LOT of scrolling for the perfect pattern for Seis Cabos, and I landed on Mastiha, from Thea Colman. It's a cardigan, with strong graphic elements, and its two-stitch cables are fun and fast to knit and really pop in Seis Cabos.I was pretty confident about the gauge (having made a hat with my sample skein), but matching stitch AND row gauge on the suggested needles was a fun surprise! And my swatch? It was the same size before and after blocking, with nothing more than a quick pat into place.

The pattern photos make the cardigan look quite cropped; in reality, the schematic calls for a body length of 12-13 inches from the underarm, which is mid to high hip for me. The model is leaning backward in several photos, creating foreshortening, and the depth of the V-neck makes the body seem shorter. As you're not required to end on a specific row, the body length can be suited to your preference.
