We hope your Labor Day weekend was filled with everything you enjoy about summer! (And hot as it was, air conditioning is a perfectly fine answer!) We spent a little bit of time at the Fair on Friday, did some manual labor on Sunday*, and worked at home in pajamas on Monday.
*Despite an aversion to heights, Mark cleaned off the roof deck of the building in preparation for a new waterproof coating and repairs to the flashing and parapets. I was the ground crew, sending supplies up by rope as needed, and finishing up with organizing the storeroom in between.

…new in the shop
Our new Stay Sparkly and Stay Extra Sparkly Scarf Kits are here, and we LOVE them!
About six weeks ago, my rep for Malabrigo and Trendsetter yarns came to show me fall yarns for both companies (even though I had already ordered the new Malabrigo). There are always yarns I like from Trendsetter, and I was looking for something with the right amount of bling, and some texture, and something with alpaca.
Fast forward to Taylor Swift's announcement of her next album. I love the colors of the cover, and I was mesmerized by the orange glitter vinyl of the record itself. I had a few colored vinyl LPs back in the day, but GLITTER? Come ON! I started thinking about a fun small project combining Seta Suri, which is a laceweight brushed Suri alpaca that can be used as you would use a strand of mohair with Brillino, a super sparkly fingering weight metallic. I started poking at small scarf patterns, and landed on Veronika Lindberg's Stay Toasty Scarf. There's enough texture to keep it interesting, the row repeats are easy to memorize, and the yarn combination is exactly what I was hoping for.
Then I had to come up with a palette for this project, and beyond the colors from the upcoming LP cover, I went straight to costumes from the Eras tour for inspiration. I think there's a little something for everyone, from classic black and white; to bold red, blue, and orange; to softer aqua, pink, and lavender.
There are two size options: the Stay Sparkly Scarf Kits are here, and the Stay Extra Sparkly Scarf Kits are here. Stay Sparkly is the size of our shop sample, and Stay Extra Sparkly is just a little longer, but twice as deep. Whether you are a Swiftie or just enjoy a little sparkle now and again, I hope you'll love these kits as much as I do!
PS, it's easier to see the sparkles in motion, so I made a couple of short GIFs here and here.
…to inspire
I uploaded some scenes from this year's Kittitas County Fair to the Yarn Folk YouTube channel. If you'd like to check out some of this year's entries, that video is here.

Since the Lakes V-Neck Pullover looks about the same, and the finished Stay Toasty Scarf is featured in the Stay Sparkly kits above, I thought I would share a picture of HOW BRIGHT the orange Seta Suri is before being combined with Brillino. One of my very favorite things about combining yarns is seeing how colors shift. There's usually an element of surprise...
