Palouse Yarn Company Trunk Show June 4-7 + Olive Knits 4 Day KAL Preview

Starting this Thursday, and continuing through the weekend, Yarn Folk will be hosting a trunk show from Palouse Yarn Company. Dyer Shelley Stone (who until recently was the owner of The Yarn Underground in Moscow, ID) will be here on Thursday, and you're invited to come stitch or spin awhile any time from 11am - 5pm!

ALSO--this weekend is Ellensburg's Pride Parade, and Yarn Folk is an event sponsor again this year. Since I no longer have built in front row seating (and Zay will be out of town), I'll be closing the shop for about 30 minutes, probably from 11:15 until 11:45. Happy Pride!

…mark your calendars

Olive Knits 4 Day* KAL

*and by 4 Day we mean totally optional challenge, July 1-31. We will be hosting a cast-on/stitching event, date TBD. This is the 10th & final 4 Day KAL!

…new in the shop

We had a small restock of Malabrigo last week, including some technically out of season (but what the heck, it's still pretty) Rasta and Vientos.

And we also received some pretty spring brights in Lana Grossa Ecopuno, a gorgeous blend of 72% cotton /  17% Merino /  11% Alpaca. Before I finish this email, I should have an idea of whether it will work for Marie Greene's 4 Day Knitalong sweaters this year--more on that just below.

…to inspire

This year is Marie Greene's 10th annual (hard to believe!) and final (😭) 4 Day Knitalong. In the beginning, it was a challenge Marie issued herself--to knit the sample for a new design over a long Fourth of July weekend. I was along for the ride then (and finished in four days)! In subsequent years, it's been less about the timed challenge, and more about the community fun of it all. And this year, there are TWO patterns to choose between, the Watermark Cardigan and the Watermark Pullover

The patterns (they are separate, and sold individually) are available for pre-order purchase now, with sizing, swatching and yarn quantity information.  If you are not terribly experienced with lace, this is a great opportunity to learn--the stitch pattern is a eight stitch, eight row repeat, with plain knitting every other row, and both written and charted instructions.

The pattern gauge is 22 stitches over the lace pattern (suggested needles: US 5/3.75mm), which offers a number of light DK / sport options. I'm making the shop sample in Remix Wool DK, and the blocked gauge is just a little bigger, so I factored that into my size choice.

Some options include:

I've swatched nearly all of these yarns (though not all in this stitch pattern) and think they are reasonable options, but as always, the swatching is in your hands!

(This is quite wet--we'll see if it holds gauge when it is dry! With this yarn (Ecopuno), I think that increasing the needle size would be an option, if you wanted an airier lace fabric.)

The Friday Tee is 14 or so rounds from dividing for the sleeves.

And here's a peek at the Watermark Cardigan!
