4-6p Virtual Class with Patty Lyon, Build a Better Fabric (Register here.)
…new in the shop
We're so pleased to be offering a Zoom class with Patty Lyons on October 16, from 4-6 pm. She'll be teaching a her hands-on Build a Better Fabric class, drawing on her wealth of information about stitch mechanics to help you improve your knitting.
You can find the detailed class description here and register! Please note that the Zoom is a live class only--it will not be recorded. Participation is capped at 50, and refunds are available only until October 11th. Mark your calendars and enroll early--you won't want to miss this opportunity!
You'll want to make sure to keep your floats loose--but they won't catch on anything because they will be enclosed within the tube.
You'll fasten off your ends so that you don't have loose stitches when you change colors, but you don't need to be fastidious about weaving in ends; see above :)
Want to use lots of scraps? Pick a main color for the background, then mix and match to your heart's content.
Want to NOT use lots of scraps? Combine a solid background with a color shifting contrast color.
For heavier DK or worsted yarns, consider making a size larger than you would otherwise make, since you'll have a thicker knit fabric doubled.
Want a less obtrusive inner layer? Knit half the hat in plain stockinette, and the other half in stranded knitting.
Pay attention to the orientation of your doodles! for a hat that is a double layer without a folded up brim, knit the charts upside down to the center, then switch and knit charts right side up for the remainder of the hat.
If you *do* want a folded up brim, knit the charts upside down to the brim section, then knit the first brim section right side up, the second brim section upside down, and the final section right side up. (You can sketch this out on the colorblocking instructions included in the pattern.)
Want two hats in one? Knit half the hat in one theme, and half in a different theme. (If planning folded up brims, sketch it out!)
This is a great opportunity to use mini skeins!
The Doodle micro charts are 24 sts wide, so aim for stitch counts that are a multiple: 72, 96, 120, 144, 168--take a look at the gauge options before you commit to your yarn choice!

I've started a new shop sample, and there will be kits available soon. What's that you say? Beaded knitting? This is Pope Vergara's Painting with Beads Scarf, and yes, beads will be included with the kits 😎
