It's been awhile in the planning, but if you've been curious to learn how to handspin with a drop spindle, we have a class scheduled for July 25th, 10am - 1pm. Register today to secure your spot!
This introductory workshop will include plenty of hands-on experience, and includes 2 oz of beginner-friendly Bluefaced Leicester wool. If you already own a drop spindle, you may use that for the class; if not, you may choose the class option that adds a 2 oz Schacht Hi-Lo Drop Spindle to your cost for the class.
Your instructor is local spinner Joan CawleyCrane, whose favorite spinning tool is the endlessly-portable drop spindle. She'll be sharing both deep knowledge and boundless enthusiasm!

Olive Knits 4 Day* KAL
*and by 4 Day we mean totally optional challenge, July 1-31. This is the 10th & final 4 Day KAL!
DOUBLE HEADER
Saturday, July 4th, 10am-4pm 4Day KAL AND Tour de Fleece kick off event, see details below!
We are still expecting a few more colors, but we have enough on hand to introduce Modern Comfort to you. Our focus at Yarn Folk from the beginning has been on quality natural fibers, but we have also always been passionate about meeting a variety of budget needs. And we get enough requests for 100% synthetic yarn that we were willin to give this new yarn from Berroco a trial run on our shelves.
Developed as a replacement for Berroco's original Comfort, Modern Comfort is a blend of 50% pill-resistant acrylic and 50% nylon. It has a gentle hand, and can be machine washed, and tumble-dried on low. That ease of care makes it idea for garments and home goods alike. It's a worsted weight yarn, 208 yds in 100g.
We are also excited to share a little box of treats to augment your 4 Day Knitalong plans!

Welcome to this year's edition of "what to do about the Fourth of July"! Over the past 13 years, I think I've done about every possible thing--stayed open regular hours, stayed open abbreviated hours, and closed for the holiday. This year, the Fourth is on Saturday, which is not a day I'd close, all things being equal.
Then the other day, it occurred to me, 'You know, you could do a combined event for the (original) start date of the Olive Knits 4 Day KAL and the Tour de Fleece." A plan was born!
Because we haven't hosted a Tour de Fleece event before, here's a brief explainer: the Tour de Fleece is a decentralized spinning event held in conjunction with the Tour de France. When the cyclists ride, spinners spin, and when the cyclists rest, the spinners rest. There's also an invitation to bump up your challenge on the toughest days--Stage 9 on Sunday, July 12, and Stage 15 on Sunday, July 19. Rest days follow those extra challenges.
As for the #4DayKAL, while it once started on July 4th, it has begun on July 1st for the last number of years, and you're welcome to join in no matter where you are in your knitting.
Last, if you want to come to Social Stitching during the regular Saturday time (2-4pm) you can do that, or you can come earlier even if you're not participating in either organized challenge. If you're going to stay for awhile, you might want to bring a lunch! I'll round up some bevvies to have on hand.

Hoping to have the Watermark Cardigan done prior to the official pattern release on July 1st! I like my odds at this point. (She is pictured here with the restoration plantings Mid Columbia Fisheries has been coordinating on the banks of the creek.
My e-spinner had to fly to West Virginia for a switch repair, so I started spinning a braid of Polka Dot Sheep's LYS Day Color for last year. I'm trying to make progress on filling a bobbin evenly! (This is better, but still not great.)
