The rush of early fall receiving is underway. An important thing to note is that sometimes there is more new stuff than we can highlight in a single week, so if you pay us a visit, it's worth taking the time to poke around and discover what's new!
Today, I want you to meet Fluffy Mohair, and there's a specific reason I want to highlight her early in the season!

First, the backstory. I grew up in the midwest, I worked at the mall, and in the 80s in a town the size of my hometown (~35,000) there were enough places to shop--but not a lot of variety. We did have a couple of thrift stores, and I counted on them to find things that were a little more unique. My favorite find was an oversized olive drab mohair cardigan, and I wore it all the time. I wish I knew what became of it, but...let's just say I moved a LOT in my twenties.
For the past two years, I found myself drawn into the cowgirlblues booth at our trade show. Based in Cape Town, owner Bridget Henderson has built a dye house highlighting South African wool and mohair, and I fell in love with the Fluffy Mohair. Now, this is not lace weight mohair--it's bulky, and that's where the WHY NOW comes in. Have you, like me, been stitching summer things on tiny needles? Well, Fluffy Mohair works up on BIG needles, and it works up fast. See my project below for proof!
Now, it does shed a bit while you're working it up, but Bridget mentioned that in advance, and said that it does calm down after a bit. And what you get is something like a wearable cloud. It's cozy and warm, and barely weighs anything at all. And because it lends itself to big needles, 220 yards goes a LONG way.

As I said, there's more we'll dive into a little deeper in the upcoming weeks, but I wanted to highlight a couple of new items from Cocoknits. The original stitchmarkers, which fit up to a US 13 needle, are now available in the original birghts AND earthtones. Find them all here. We've also got the new Project Wallets. Made from washable paper (yes, really), these handy organizers give you a place to keep all of the notions you'll need for a specific project. Buttons? Toss them in. One of more row counters? Stitch saver cords? The correct number of stitch markers? A darning needle? You get the idea. The front flap folds over the top and is secured with a button and string, keeping everything safely inside.

The Weaver Shorties are sneaker socks that feature a stitch pattern similar to the Attabi Scarf I made with two skeins of Echoes Aran. It's a really fun stitch pattern to knit, and I think it looks great on the instep of these sock. (And shorties are faster to finish 👍🏻)
