Mark Your Calendars: Stitch in Public 6-8pm July 8th

June 23, 2026

If your social media feeds are as yarnie as mine, you probably saw Worldwide Knit in Public events popping up earlier in June. WWKIP is scheduled for the second Saturday of June--which is also when CWU's Commencement is held every year. We've done events a few times, but it is always awkward!

This year, the Ellensburg Night Market is taking a break, and Krewephoria Events has stepped in to present a Sunset Market series on the second Wednesday of the summer months at Unity Park.

I reached out to organizer Tabitha to ask whether it would be okay to meet up for a stitching in public event during the July 8th Sunset Market, and she was very open to the community participation. You can find out more about the market at Krewphoria Events Instagram account.

We will plan on being there from 6-8pm, and you may want to bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on--there are benches at the park, but it's hard to know seating availability in advance. Food will be available for purchase, and the family friendly event is free.

…mark your calendars

…new in the shop

Are you in? This is the 10th and final knitalong in the Olive Knits 4 Day KAL series, and Marie has you covered whether you love cardigans or pullovers!

Cute, yeah?

Here are the number of skeins you'll need for each size in the yarns we swatched (and a couple of others we think would work.

First, the sizing (measurements refer to the finished garment measurement):
S (35"), M (37.75"), L (40.75"), XL (47"), 2X (49.5"), 3X (52.75"), 4X (55.75"), 5X (61"), 6X (67")

Berroco Remix Wool DK This was my choice, and my swatch was approximately 4% larger than gauge. I was deliberating between sizes, and I chose the smaller one based on my gauge information. (An almost-done, pre-blocking measurement suggests that this will work out.)

You'll need 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5 skeins.

Lana Grossa Ecopuno This swatch was right on gauge and has stayed the same size. It is a lighter fabric, and the lace looks more open.

You'll need 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, balls.

Urth Yarns Etesia This cotton/linen blend is distinctly summery. I liked my swatch better dropping down one needle size from the pattern suggestion, and it was still 8% larger than gauge. I think this is a very viable choice, and a great demonstration of why we swatch for information!

You'll need 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6 skeins.

Berroco Vintage DK This is the utilitarian blend I am never mad at. As much as I prefer natural fibers, I can appreciate the appeal of an easy care blend, and Vintage DK feels nice to work with and nice to wear. This worked very close to gauge on the suggested needle; the lace is less open than Ecopuno.

You'll need 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6 skeins

Two more that I think would work, but haven't swatched:

Blue Sky Fibers Organic Cotton Sport This is 100% cotton, and it is a heavy sport weight.

You'll need 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10, 11, 11, 12 skeins.

Malabrigo Arroyo Such a versatile sport/DK yarn. I think you'll like the lace best if you choose a tonal color rather than a variegated one.

Our drop spindling class (there are only two spots left!) has an optional add-on of a Schacht Hi-Low drop spindle, but I don't think I mentioned that I have three sizes available in the shop. For the time being, they are available in-store only, until I am able to track down correctly sized boxes to make shipping a possibility.  If you own Schacht spinning or weaving equipment and need parts or accessories, I am able to facilitate a drop shipment for you--just let me know and I'll get current pricing and lead times for you.

And don't forget, on the Fourth of July, we're hosting a Tour de Fleece kick off / 4 Day KAL work party / extended Social Stitching from 10am - 4pm! See last week's blog post for details.

Button bands and blocking are all that's left for the Watermark Cardigan! I'll choose buttons once the button holes are made; these are a couple of contenders.

Then, back to the Friday Tee in CottonWool 3, and a small #Junigurumi bear, and I may have bought a pattern for a granny square bag...
