As I write this, it is Presidents' Day, and it is snowing. But it's February 17th, and March is only two weeks away. While it is too early to plan for sustained Spring weather, we are likely to see real spring, which is flowers beginning to poke through the crust of soil, only to be covered with snow, which then melts away. Repeat.
So what do we have on tap for Spring at Yarn Folk? On March 26th, we have a Zoom workshop with Erin Eggenburg of Wren Bird Arts. Erin is an expert on mending, and this class will focus on woven darning techniques. You can enroll here.
Sometime prior to that in March, we will have a yarn tasting for Berroco's spring collection. The date will be announced soon, but I want to make sure the tasting kits are ready to go before I attach a date to this event!
In April, Yarn Folk's 12th Anniversary celebration will take place on Saturday, April 12th. We've got some fun stuff in progress, and are brainstorming things to add!
And then April 26th is Local Yarn Store Day! I'm on The National Needlearts Association's planning committee for the event, and we are working hard to make this a fun, smooth-running event for all participating shops. It's too early to begin rolling out the details, but mark your calendars for both of these fun Saturdays in April!
Bring your current project, and spend some time with others who really vibe on yarn! As we enter cold and flu season, please consider wearing a mask if you're feeling a little "off," or join us just as soon as you're feeling better!
Wednesday, March 26, 4-7pm

It's always a good day for a Malabrigo restock! And while we were expecting a box just like this one on Friday...and then again on Monday...it should actually arrive today. Mostly Rios and Arroyo.
We also did a big needle, hook, and notions restock last week, and I know a couple of you were waiting for Eucalan to be back in stock--and it is! Spring is a great time for washing your knits. We have the large and small bottles, and don't forget that if you bring in your empty large bottle, we offer bulk refills at a discount.

I've mentioned Elizabeth Smith's excellent Friday Night Knit Tips newsletter in the past (scroll to the bottom of her website to sign up), and a couple of weeks ago, she featured a re-worked version of her Woods Road Vest (also available on Ravelry). If you're looking for a transitional garment that works with a variety of yarn options, suitable for a beginner, but with enough interest to keep your attention if you have more experience, take a look! Additionally, Elizabeth is expanding her tutorial resources, so you are supported throughout your project.
I finished the knitting on Bermy 18 Saturday night, and wove in the ends Sunday morning. This photo is after a quick steam block, but it hopped into a tepid bath soon after this photo. This is a very adaptable pattern, clearly written and easy to knit, and all its variations mean there is a Bermy pattern to match almost any yarn you want to knit.
I did start a baby sample in a yarn we'll be offering for Spring/Summer--but I didn't like my needle size, so I tore it out and will restart. Swatching on the fly is still swatching--the key is generating enough fabric to evaluate, and being honest about when you need to change course! (The pattern I'm using is Wren, a charming and easy baby cardigan, free from Berroco.)
