Last week for Clearance! Closed Labor Day, September 1

(Entry to the Home Arts Building (Teanaway Hall), 2023)

See you at the Fair? Entries have been dropped off, the judges have graded them, and superintendents will have the booths ready for Opening Day on Thursday! Whether you're headed to the Rodeo, taking in some music on one of the stages, having a spin on the carnival rides, visiting the 4-H animals, or searching for fried food on a stick, make sure to stop into the Home Arts building to see this year's Needlework, Fiber Arts, and Wool Show entries. Quilts and Fine Arts are in the Armory.

Yarn Folk will be open regular hours through the weekend, then closed on Monday.  Have fun celebrating the end of summer--Fall is right around the corner!

…new in the shop

The Semi-Annual Clearance Sale is now featuring the deepest discounts you'll see (75% off 😱), and we are squarely in the in-between times: a big order on the way, a fill-in order shipping soon, some exciting fall orders at sea, making their way to the warehouse.

Meanwhile, we have a useful new notion in stock, and I think I forgot to tell you about our Emma Ball re-stock.

The Knitting Needle & Crochet Hook Minder Sets are a lifesaver if you're someone who has ever stolen the needles from a project to use for a different project. (Let's imagine you desperately needed them to finish something; I'm sure that it wasn't an emergency new project cast-on...) The engraved tags allow you to put the bulb pin through the needle size, ensuring that you return to knitting or crocheting with the correct size needle or hook. If you are using interchangeable knitting needles or tunisian crochet hooks, you also have the option of inserting the pin into the hole in the cord once you remove the needle tips or the hook.

We received some stitch markers, bags, and gift tags from Emma Ball a couple of weeks ago, and while some of you have noticed them in the shop, I'm pretty sure I forgot to mention them here. Our order went in and was received prior to the tariffs on European goods taking effect, and we were careful to choose from items that were manufactured in the UK vs. those that are made in China, so there were no price increases on this order. We'll assess what makes sense next time we reorder.

…to inspire

One of the things you might see at the Kittitas County Fair is the spinning demonstrations. The Fiber Arts group keeps up a steady presence throughout the fair, so you can often watch wool and other fibers being spun into yarn.

If you want an up close look at unprocessed wool, be sure to visit the Wool Show, and if you want a closer look at what local fiber looks like after it's been processed, but before it's been spun, Lisa and Jim from Rocky Roo-Bee Ranch just dropped off some batts of local wool they processed on their new mini-mill, and all of the fiber is local to Kittitas County. You can also see those online here.

I made really great progress on Ozetta's Lakes V-Neck Pullover in Berroco Wizard -- at least until I dropped everything to start a new sample in some yarn that just arrived. I'm very excited about that, and I'll share more next week.

I've also been swatching some yarns I'm contemplating adding to our shelves. Baa Ram Ewe is a British wool producer with some gorgeous, breed-specific yarns. I have a small reprieve when it comes to my decision making, as they very recently entered into a partnership with a US distributor, and yarn is on its way from  Saddleworth, England, to Philadelphia. It can't ship until it arrives, so I have a little time to decide!
