LYS Day is SATURDAY! Plus: Knit or Crochet Every Day in May Yarn Folk

With two fun events this week, you can bet I will be introverting real hard next Sunday! :)

Thursday, we'll be participating in Girls Night Out from 5-9pm. Our in-store special will be 25% off embroidery, cross stitch, and needle felting kits, and new or confirmed email subscribers to our weekly email will be eligible to win a $50 gift card. And as is the tradition with this event, each $25 you spend will earn you a chance at winning one of two gift baskets filled with treats from all participating downtown locations!

And on Saturday, please join us for one of the most joyful events of the year! That's right, it's LOCAL YARN SHOP DAY! We love being here to share our mutual enthusiasm for yarn, fiber, and all the things you can do with it!

Here's what's on tap for Saturday:

  • A gorgeous trunk show from Wild Star Fibers!
  • An exclusive LYS Day 2022 enamel pin with $75 purchase while supplies last.
  • Download code for Casapinka's 2022 LYS Day pattern, Ric Rac, with purchase of two skeins of fingering weight yarn.
  • Download code for any Berroco pattern with any purchase of Berroco, Amano, or Lopi yarns. (Crocheters, Berroco has some wonderful crochet options for you!)
  • Download code for any Blue Sky Fibers pattern with any purchase of Blue Sky Fibers yarn.
  • Treats! Festivity! Conviviality!
  • Pick up or download your Knit or Crochet Every Day in May* entry form!

*See details in "to stitch"!

While the Wild Star Fibers trunk show is available exclusively at Yarn Folk, the free pattern offers will also be available to online shoppers. Whether you're joining us in person on virtually, remember to redeem your pattern codes promptly, as they are time sensitive!

Current open hours are Monday - Thursday, 7am-3:30pm, Friday 8:30am - 5pm and Saturdays, 9am-4pm.

In-store shopping: masks are optional (but welcome and appreciated). Thanks for your help in keeping my business open to the public!

...to anticipate

At the Seattle trade show a couple of weeks ago, Malabrigo offered a show exclusive of a yarn that isn't available on a larger scale, and I think you will LOVE these gradient, speckled Sock Cakes. These are a limited edition item--we all asked, and while they *might* offer them in the future on a more regular basis, there's no immediate plan to do so.  So if this looks like fun to you, nab some now!
We also added a new sport weight yarn to the shop last week, and this is another one of those yarns that burrowed itself into my heart when I swatched it. Amano Yarns Awa is a blend of 55% baby alpaca, 26% Merino wool, and 19% cotton. It's chainette with a subtle marled appearance, and the construction plus the inclusion of the wool in the blend will help it keep its shape. I'm thinking of Jessie Maed's Outline Tee in this, but it would also be lovely for scarves or shawls. And there's this lacy poncho, which only requires two skeins.yarnfolk dividing line (2).png

…to inspire

We want you relaxed and ready for LYS Day, so here are some details on the pattern offers you'll enjoy.

Above, Casapinka's Ric Rac shawl is designed to be a relaxing knit, and you can pair nearly any two fingering weight yarns you like together--the pattern works well with solids, speckles, variegated--whatever strikes your fancy, so long as you've got 400 yards of each color. Browse fingering weight yarns here.

Berroco yarns are some of our favorites, and the free pattern code will work either on Ravelry or Berroco's Pattern Store. Amy Christoffers is Berroco's current design director, and Norah Gaughan preceded her--we think this is some of the best design support out there. The free pattern is available with any purchase of Berroco, Amano, Lang, or Lopi yarns.

From Blue Sky Fibers Yarn Folk carries Woolstok, Woolstok Light, and Printed Organic Cotton. As with Berroco, the pattern code is valid on Ravelry or at Blue Sky Fibers.

I added quite a few rows to the Photography Shawl (but I'm in the same section, so it looks about the same). And I started Romi Hill's 10th annual Mystery Shawl Knit Along, Time Heals. Even in a busy week, projects move along, and eventually they become finished objects.
Which brings me to a fun thing I've cooked up for May:
Beginning Friday, April 29th, I'll have contest trackers available in person and online for download.
The rules are simple:
  • Knit or crochet every day in May.
  • It doesn't have to be much--just a row, or even a stitch.
  • It doesn't have to be the same project--you can bounce around.
  • You don't have to finish anything.
  • Just nurture your habit. It's a good one.
  • It's the honor system. Be honorable.
At the end of the month, you'll submit your completed tracker, and on June 6, I will draw a winner from all completed entries. The prize? An interchangeable needle or hook set of your choice from the following:
Addi Click:
(Knitting) Short or Standard Rocket; Turbo (Standard); or Bamboo
(Crochet) Bamboo or Aluminum/Plastic
ChiaoGoo:
(Knitting) Spin or Twist Complete Sets, 4" or 5" tips
(Crochet) Spin Tunisian Hook Set
Knitter's Pride:
(Knitting) Dreamz Deluxe (5") or Deluxe Special (4"); Karbonz Deluxe (5") or Special (4") ; Mindful Gratitude (5") or Warmth (4")
(Crochet) Ginger (Tunisian) or Waves
One last thing--in the spirit of keeping it simple, there's no requirement that the yarn be purchased from Yarn Folk. But keep your LYS in your heart, okay? This is all intended to encourage you to make your fiber-y pursuits part of your every day life, and to thank you for connecting with Yarn Folk. ✌️
