Kits! + Cerulean Orchid Stickers Restock

Last week's Berroco Spring 2024 Yarn Tasting was great fun! Home Tasting Kits are still available here, and if you'd like to see some swatches, inquire next time you're in the shop.

Here's a random tip I've been meaning to mention: when you're looking at yarn colors here at yarnfolk.com--whether you're using a desktop monitor, a laptop, or a mobile device--turn up the screen brightness for best results. If you're like me, your cell phone is set to automatically adjust to ambient light levels, but that's not always the best option for evaluating color onlnie. Screen images will always vary from device to device, but boosting the overall brightness can help.

Weather Delay

In support of Groundhog Phil's prediction for an early spring, we're shortening this to a TL;DR version: if the weather seems extra-annoying, check social media and Google for possible weather-related updates.

…new in the shop

Maybe you caught Cerulean Orchid's post (or my subsequent repost) of the sticker order Jeananne sent me last week? Find the new selection here, or enjoy them next time you stop in.

We've also added two kits, and updated another this week. The Oaken Shawl Kits are a special value, discounted to cover your purchase of the pattern. This is a generously sized worsted weight shawl--the kind of thing that comes in so handy in unpredictable weather!

If you've followed along with the progress of my Autumn Alpine sweater, you'll know that it was a joy to knit from start to finish. Make that Finnish?? Tukuwool Fingering is a very special yarn, and it makes such a lofty and lovely sweater. The Autumn Alpine Kits feature curated color pairings, and combine sizes that use the same number of skeins. Recommended positive ease is 2-8" larger than your chest measurement.

Last, the Alpine Bloom Hat Kits have been refreshed, and new color combinations added!

Another resource for learning more about Berroco's Spring 2024 yarns is Berroco's YouTube channel, and in particular, the virtual trunk shows. As retailers, we tend to see these very early (say, in a Zoom meeting, just after shoveling snow from the sidewalks). Now that the collections are officially launched, the videos are posted for you, too! They are an excellent way to see the variety of yarn colors, the supporting designs, and get a sense for how the knit and crochet fabrics move.  You can find the Spring 2024 playlist here. And as always, any Berroco, Lang, Wool Addicts, West Yorkshire Spinners, Lopi, and Amano yarns can be ordered for drop shipment to you!

Oops, did I buy two sweater patterns? 🤭

Sari Nordlund's new Mila Cardigan suggests a Wool Dreamers yarn other than the two I carry (Manchelopis and Saona), but I thought...what about Saona + mohair? The swatch is soft and dreamy, and I cast on. The cable pattern is twelve rows, and fairly intuitive, but the pattern is never not cabling, so it's not super fast knitting. Still, I told my distributor I was going to try to have it done before our trade show in early May. Let's hear it for ambitious self-imposed deadlines! Especially since I also swatched for Sharon Hartley's Flair Free Cardi. I wanted to make a great basic lightweight cardi using Charlotte, our Madelinetosh custom color, in Tosh Merino Light. I looked at a LOT of patterns, and loved the classic lines and options for customization. It's elegant, but confident-beginner friendly. If you're intrigued, take a look at Sharon's teaser trailer for this design.
