Check out the Factory Girl Design Trunk Show!

We first "met" Factory Girl Design just before this year's Local Yarn Shop Day--and we still have a few of the kits for the Golden Hour shawl available--since we made and loved the sample, we ordered plenty! After that, dyer Crystal and I talked about doing a shipped trunk show, and we're happy to be featuring her beautiful yarns and fibers for a couple of weeks this month!

In addition to the yarn and fiber, we also have the treat of hosting some gorgeous sample garments worked up in the yarns. If you're able to visit in person, you can see these patterns (many of them Crystal's Designs) worked up in the Factory Girl Design yarns:

Campus Cardi, by Aimee Sher (DK)
Everyday Tank, by Ashlea Schumaker (fingering)
Smolder Cowl, by Crystal Hiatt (DK)
Salty Air Tee, by Samantha Guerin (fingering)
Crosscurrent cowl, by Cheryl Faust (sport)
Grange Hat & Grange Cowl, by Crystal Hiatt (DK)
Joybomb Hat & Joybomb Cowl, by Melissa West (DK + Signal Fluff Fingering doubled)
Rosemary Greyhound Socks, by Crystal Hiatt (fingering)
Lavender Dreams Socks, by Crystal Hiatt (fingering)
Puerto Banus Shawl, by Crystal Hiatt (fingering)

You can find all of the trunk show yarns here--they are a lovely mix of superwash and non-superwash wools.

…new in the shop

We have a number of inspiring new books in the shop, including this new title

Remember, if you order books by themselves, you can choose Media Mail, and if you combine them with yarn or other items, you are going to see two shipping charges, and I will pack them efficiently, and refund you the excess amount. Find books here.

Have we talked about Gepard Garn Cashmere Lace? A 25g ball contains 360 yards, and it is an amazing alternative to mohair if you're wanting to make a project with a carry-along yarn. It's not as hairy while you work, but it adds a lovely bloom to your project. You can also use it doubled, for a cloud-like effect. (The Aris Blouse is an exceptionally beautiful example of how that can work.)

…to inspire

This week is Spinzilla, the "monster of a spinning competition" that last happened in 2018! You may have noticed that we do love a good challenge around here, so Yarn Folk has fielded a team of 10 spinners, and we'll be pursuing our personal records for yards spun in a week. We have a range of experience, and we're spinning in all the ways--drop spindle, traditional wheel, e-spinner. The National Needlearts Association is sponsoring the event, and I hear there are great prizes for competition winners, but also for random giveaways. There was an entry fee, and those will be donated to Handweavers Guild of America, specifically to the Teach It Forward grant program for teachers who are trying to reach new weavers, spinners and dyers, and the scholarship program for college students who are studying fiber arts.

If you are a spinner, consider joining us next year (and if you need an infusion of fiber in the meantime, you can find our spinning fiber here)!

Thanks to Joan Cawley Crane for making our team a fun logo!

Hey Halo in Gepard Woolia and Kid Seta is SO CLOSE to being done. Nine rounds of ribbing and a tubular bind off close. REALLY CLOSE!

However, with Spinzilla starting on Monday, I needed to make sure the bobbins for my e-spinner were free, and since I wanted to focus on the main body color for the Paul Klee Sweater (Palouse Yarn Co's gorgeous Mazama blend of Targhee and Cormo), I knew I'd feel better if I had all the mini-braids for the yoke finished.

Here are colors K-P--each blended with each of its neighbor colors, and also plied with itself.
