…new in the shop

I hope that you have the same experience I had upon first seeing this yarn: O.M.G. I met Laura of Purl Talk at the h+h Americas trade show, and I placed an order before leaving Chicago. (I normally collect information and samples, and place orders when I return to Ellensburg, and throughout the year.) These colors just knocked me over, though, and we're featuring this saturated rainbow on two bases. You Soxy Thing is a fingering weight yarn comprised of 75% superwash Merino, 15% nylon, and 10% Tencel. The Tencel is a high-lustre fiber, and it's playing a starring role giving this yarn a lively shine. And we've also added Fuzzy Thinking, in the same range of colors.

You can use these beautiful skeins separately or together, and if you're thinking of ways to combine them, this Ravelry search filters for 2 yarns held together, of differing weights, knit together as a DK weight yarn. (You do need to be logged into Ravelry to view a saved search.) Nordic designers have a particular gift for designing with the light and fluffy fabrics this combination of yarns makes: PetiteKnit (Ravelry and petiteknit.com), Veronika Lindberg (Ravelry and kutovakika.com) and Sari Nordlund (Ravelry and YouTube) all feature wool/mohair designs in their portfolios.

You can also consider patterns that are just designed for DK weight yarns--like Camila Vad's Field Cardigan or the Cloudy Day Sweater by SuviKnits.

…to inspire

I had marked on my calendar the date AT THE END OF NOVEMBER when the Seahawks were scheduled to feature throwback uniforms hearkening back to the 80s and 90s. And then the re-introduction of the royal blue / kelly green scheme was moved up by more than a month!

I'd been thinking that a throwback hat design would be fun, and while I had to hustle, I did finish before game time on Sunday!

I put together kits for Throwback here. Please note that the kits are priced to include the yarn only--the pattern is included, but it is a gift from Yarn Folk. There is a sample chart that includes the team name, but there is also a full charted alphabet in case you have a different word or phrase you want to feature on your hat.

Here's a bit of Mabel, a pattern from Cocoknits, just past where I began knitting in the round for the body. I'd be farther along but...I stopped for an emergency hat design! The knitting from this point on is extremely straightforward, so this now takes on the "knit anywhere, anytime" role in my project bag. Really loving the Ultra Alpaca Chunky Natural!
