Elf Mode...ACTIVATE! Yarn Folk

The Christmas holiday is drawing ever closer, and we'll be here to help you and your loved ones with some fiber-y gift giving! We have gift certificates available in the shop along with gift cards online. If you or someone you're shopping for is brand new to knitting, check out our Just Add Yarn Knitting Kits, which include your choice of two instructional books, a great beginner's scarf pattern, and the needles and notions needed to begin. We suggest a range of yarn options which are priced separately for a range of budgets. And of course, we're stocked with yarn for your last-minute projects, as well as needles, notions, and accessories for gift-giving.

Current open hours are Monday - Thursday, 7am-3:30pm, Friday 8:30am - 5pm and Saturdays, 9am-4pm.

In-store shopping: masks are REQUIRED for all guests over age 2. Thanks for your help in keeping my business open to the public!

We received a box of rich and interesting colors from Murky Depths Dyeworks, so we have restocked colors in Neptune DK, along with new-to-the-shop Harbour Singles, a firmly twisted single ply, and Mirage, a mohair/silk blend. I asked for Debbie's help in putting together colors of the Harbour Fingering and Mirage that would work alone or together. Tin Can Knits' Love Note is the platonic ideal of a sweater combining fingering with lace weight mohair, but if a smaller project is more your speed, Jenny Ansah's Pelto Collar is on-trend, Julie Jaeken's Lavender Scarf shows how airy and pretty fingering and mohair held together and knit on larger needles can be,  and Susanne Somer's Slice of Light shawl incorporates brioche knitting. (Side note: PDX Knitterati's Brioche Knit Love is back in stock.)

We also received a shipment of Cocoknits Maker's Boards,  designed to making reading knitting charts easier.  Made with washable kraft fabric, there are internal metal sheets that make every surface magnetic. You can stick a chart on one surface, your pattern on another, and when you prop one side up for display, the angle is completely adjustable, making it even more versatile. Use the strong magnets included to keep small tools, charts, patterns, recipes, and more at hand while you’re working. The magnetic Ruler & Gauge set are a particularly useful add-on. We also added the Split Rings to our selection of Cocoknits markers and ordered in some Colorful Stitch Stoppers, too.

…to inspire

When my internet friend Amanda (@mandabe4r on Instagram) shared a post she'd written on planning her knitting and sewing projects using My Body Model, I knew I wanted to share it here, too! Amanda is a maker's maker, and her process using this unique online tool is intriguing and inspiring. Thanks to Amanda and to Erica at My Body Model for permission to use one of the photographs from the post!yarnfolk dividing line (2).png

A little more progress on The Purl Code by Isabel Kraemer in Berroco Topaz (with Purl Strings as the easiest stitch holders ever!), plus the beginning of the (crochet) Anemone Cowl by Jeananne Atthowe in the original sample skein of Murky Depths Harbour I ordered when I was first looking at bringing in Murky Depths.
