Hudson + West Trunk Show! Yarn Folk

Sometimes you have your email open at just the right time! That was the case when Hudson + West sent out the sign up forms for the trunk show of garments from the Autumn/Winter 2021 collection, and Yarn Folk is thrilled to be only the second shop to spend a couple of weeks with these wonderful pieces!

The trunk show includes all four sweaters from the collection, including TWO versions of Saven; Archer, the coziest scarf you'll ever meet; and the hats--Rhett & Asthore. We will have these pieces in the shop through Small Business Saturday (November 27th)--and if you have a chance to stop by and see them in person, I think you'll really begin to get a sense of why I love Forge and Weld so much!

Quick video tour is here.

Current open hours are Monday - Thursday, 7am-3:30pm, Friday 8:30am - 5pm and Saturdays, 9am-4pm.

In-store shopping: masks are REQUIRED for all guests over age 2. Thanks for your help in keeping my business open to the public!

...to anticipate

So, funny story, a few weeks ago I was participating in an evening Zoom call with a group of other yarn shop owners, when I got a message that Malabrigo had just updated their available inventory. We were actually discussing inventory at the time, and I *may* have had one window open with Zoom, and a second window open to Malabrigo's ordering page at the same time...

There was lots of Rios available, and now there's lots here in the shop. Scarves, hats, mittens, or cowls for gift-giving? Heck yes. Sweater for you, or someone you love? Also yes! (But remember that you have the most choices in sweater quantities soon after the boxes are opened!) There's also Washted, Rasta, Arroyo, and even some Sock in BLACK. (Black Sock is almost never on the ready-to-ship list.)

(And just a note: because Malabrigo's colors do vary from dye lot to dye lot, I have switched from using their stock images to photos of the actual skeins I have received. There is still some variation from skein to skein, but I think this will give you the best idea of what is actually in the shop.)yarnfolk dividing line (2).png

…to inspire

Have you ever knit a hat sideways? Designer Wooly Wormhead is a prolific creator of inventive hat patterns that go beyond traditional construction. Pictured above are Toph and Lamitra. There is a Sideways KAL (#WWSKAL) currently being hosted in Wooly's Ravelry Group through November 30th--a fun opportunity to try something just a little different on a small project. You can find Wooly's sideways hat patterns on their website or on Ravelry!yarnfolk dividing line (2).png

...to stitch

I spent a good bit of Sunday afternoon crocheting away on the French Press Cardi in Rios. I was able to finish the sleeves & upper bodice section, and then pick up and begin crocheting downward to create the lower bodice. The extended single crochet used throughout the pattern makes a nice waffled texture that isn't too heavy in a worsted weight yarn.

While I don't have it displayed just yet (due to trunk show abundance!), I finished Jen Peck's Laurel, in Ash, Juniper, and Evergreen Weld. Everything about this was an absolute pleasure--the pattern, the design, the yarn. The yarn requirements were as expected--four skeins of the main color, and one each of the two contrasts. I've put together bundled kits for the combination I used, the one featured in the official pattern photos, and a couple of others I thought were appealing!
