Celebrate Malabrigo Day with Door Prizes & a Yarn Tasting!

Our friends at Malabrigo are marking a big milestone: 20 years of providing knitters and crocheters around the world with gorgeous hand-dyed merino wool and natural fiber yarns. We're having a party!

Join us this Saturday; here's what we have planned:
  • Door prizes--get an entry ticket just for stopping by any time during the day, an additional ticket for every $10 you spend on Malabrigo yarns, and an addtional ticket if you wear or bring any item you've made with Malabrigo yarns
  • We will have a selection of yarn bases at special "try-it" prices.
  • We will have a yarn tasting set up featuring all of Malabrigo yarns, including bases we aren't currently stocking
  • There will be cake during social stitching, from 2-4pm. You haven't joined us before? That's okay--everyone came for the first time once!

We are also excited to join Malabrigo in launching a brand new yarn base. It will be making its debut on Friday. Vientos is a chunky weight plied superwash Merino. Thanks to my very persuasive friend, I was able to get a couple of skeins from our trade show this summer, even though I didn't attend 😈 I made a small sample prior to ordering, and it is everything I was hoping it would be, and I'm positive you will love it, too!

Mark your calendars, and join us on Saturday to celebrate all things Malabrigo!

…new in the shop

As mentioned above, we will be debuting a new yarn from Malabrigo, Vientos, on Friday. Available in the shop, and this link will be live on Friday. Until then, here are some fun arrivals from last week:

New books:
Knitting the U.S.A. (from Nancy Bates of Knitting the National Parks)
Learn to Knit in 50 Squares, a 2-in-1 knitting course and blanket pattern
The Granny Squares Bible, 110 designs to mix, match, and crochet

…to inspire

By request! Whether you're participating in Laura Nelkin's Into the Hoods mystery KAL or have another hood or balaclava pattern in mind, we'll be hosting an informal stitch-along during November, with a cast-on / getting started / progress sharing event from 3:30 to 5pm on November 7th, and a show-and-tell gathering at the same time on December 5th. All are welcome to join in; if your materials are purchased at Yarn Folk, you will also be entered to win a $20 gift card on December 5th.

Here are a few patterns to inspire you! With the holidays approaching, consider a hood as a possible holiday gift! (Balaclavas are especially useful for elementary age children--less likely to get lost or caught on play equipment.)

...currently stitching

  • The Lakes V-Neck in Berroco Wizard has so much sleeve!! A couple of inches of ribbing on the second sleeve and I can pick up for the v-neck ribbing. (WHICH IT CLEARLY NEEDS.)
  • Sophie Hood in Basta is ever-so-slightly-more-than-halfway there. If I spend an hour or so with it, I'll be back to a section that I can pick up and put down easily.
  • Rib It Socks (Kite Heel) in Knitted Wit Sock, Yarn Folk colorway. The kite heel is fun, although I don't quite grok it yet.
  • I refrained from starting a new project. This deserves its own entry.
